It is not uncommon for someone who suffers from disruptive mood dysregulation disorder to get misdiagnosed as having oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), anxiety disorders, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), among others. Besides having a child become misdiagnosed, it is also very possible for them to not get diagnosed at all.
Because DMDD is a relatively new diagnosis, the research on it is limited. DMDD is a newly classified disorder, and few DMDD-specific treatment studies have been conducted to date.
